Well known Bath Architects, Mitchell Taylor Workshop, have specified Vitral’s A74 roofglazing system for the rooflights in the £1.2 million library for King’s College in Taunton.
The 600sq m library for the private school will house classrooms, offices and computer rooms and was designed by Mitchell Taylor Workshop’s Simon Gould.
The rooflight design has 3 monopitch rooflights, with each run incorporating opening panels to provide natural ventilation for the building. Vitral’s roofglazing systems are uniquely designed with each panel being independent to the adjacent panel, so there is no carrier frame. This enables a panel to completely open and when it closes, it does so flush to the panel next to it. This means there is no external difference between an opening and a fixed panel.
It also means that the A74 roofglazing system’s sightlines are only 50mm and only 74mm in profile depth. This minimal framing, even with opening panels, allows as much natural light in as possible and in a building where quality is important in terms of performance and visual impact, reflects the architect’s intentions.
Vitral’s rooflight systems have project based U-values of 1.6W/m2K and is hot box tested to 1.56W/m2K. Vitral provide a U-value calculation service that will give a true U-value for your rooflight, not one based on predetermined factory conditions.
The rooflights for the library at King’s College in Taunton are powder coated RAL7016, Anthracite grey, and can be powder coated any colour, and split for different colours on the internal and external surfaces.
In addition to installing the Vitral rooflights, Elliotts Premier Roofing, are also providing the Zinc Roofing and the Sarnafil guttering. By providing these other elements of the building it enables R G Spiller Ltd, the Main Contractor, to have a single contractor for the roof envelope. This of course gives cost benefits as well as having a single contractor providing key products that have critical interfaces.
Vitral’s Trained Approved Specialist Contractors (TASC) can all bring additional and different services to a project, whether it be roofing, cladding, steel fabrication or even internal joinery. Vitral can advise you on which installers can assist in other areas of a project to give cost and logistical benefits to your project.
