Impact testing

Falling from height is the largest cause of death in the construction industry, as recorded under the 2011/2012 statistics. Falls through roof lights are one of five identified types of risk.

The purpose of impact testing is to show, that a 90 Kg heavy person can fall onto the roof light and remain there, unconscious for 30 minutes, after the glass has been broken and without falling through and with only a minimum of glass falling down onto the floor below.
Impact testing is carried out as described in the English test norms TN66 and TN67 (Technical Notes), designed by the Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT).
Vitral’s A74 and SkyVision products are impact tested (and have both passed safely within limits) by The Technology Centre, an independent UKAS registered test house.
